Google Ads Campaign Groups

Written by Zoey Reading

How Google Ads Campaign Groups Can Help Organise a PPC Account

When managing multiple campaigns within a PPC account, organisation and structure are key.  Google Ads recently brought out a new feature called campaign groups that can significantly streamline the process of organising campaigns as well as reporting on them. In this blog, we’ll explore how campaign groups can help you organise your PPC account more effectively.

What Are Campaign Groups?

Campaign groups in Google Ads allow you to bundle related campaigns together, making it easier to manage and optimise them as a unit. This feature is particularly useful if you’re running multiple campaigns targeting different products, services, or geographic locations. For example, if you’re a travel operator and running campaign in different markets, you might use campaign groups to combine the data from the campaigns targeting each country.

Benefits of Using Campaign Groups

  1. Improved Organisation: By grouping related campaigns, you can keep your PPC account organised and easy to navigate. This is especially beneficial for large accounts with numerous campaigns.
  2. Simplified Management: Campaign groups enable you to apply settings and adjustments to multiple campaigns simultaneously. For example, you can set a shared budget, adjust bids, or apply targeting options across all campaigns within a group.
  3. Enhanced Performance Tracking: With campaign groups, you can monitor the performance of related campaigns collectively. This provides a holistic view of your advertising efforts and helps identify trends and areas for improvement.
  4. Target Tracking: When you set up a campaign group, you set a target based on your goals. This could be based on things like conversions or CPA. This allows you to then set different KPIs for your different campaigns group and easily track how they are performing.

How to Set Up Campaign Groups

This is how to set up campaign groups within the Google Ads interface:

1.Create a Campaign Group: In your Google Ads account, navigate to the “Campaigns” tab and click on “Campaign Groups.” Click the “+” button to create a new campaign group.

2. Add Campaigns to the Group: Select the campaigns you want to include in the group. You can add existing campaigns or create new ones.

3. Select your targets: Set your target goal for the campaign group: conversions, clicks or conversion value

4. Choose the timeframe for your target and then the target goal

5. Launch your campaign group: Once you’ve set your target, you’re ready to create your campaign group

Best Practices for Using Campaign Groups

  • Organise by Theme: Group campaigns by common themes, such as product categories, geographic locations, or marketing objectives. This makes it easier to manage and optimise them.
  • Monitor Performance Regularly: Keep an eye on the performance of your campaign groups and make adjustments as needed. Use the performance data to identify trends and optimise your campaigns for better results.
  • Set Realistic Targets: Take the time to understand your current performance and realistic goals to achieve. If you’re launching campaigns in a new market and splitting your campaign groups like this, it might be worth setting a slightly lower target goal.
