Brief

Talking Stick Digital partnered with Royal Zambezi Lodge to increase its organic social media presence, grow engaged audiences, and strengthen its role in the marketing funnel. Alongside organic social, we implemented an omnichannel approach with SEO, PPC and Paid Social, this larger strategy supported the overall business goals of growing bookings for better consistency across the year, making up for seasonal dips.

The initial organic social media goals for Royal Zambezi Lodge were to:

Build a strong and engaged follower base across Facebook and Instagram through a curated, brand-aligned strategy.

Nurture followers with valuable, inspiring content that showcases the magic of the lodge and its surroundings, while guiding users naturally towards conversion

Challenges & Solutions

Brand Differentiation

There is a lot of competition across organic social with safari lodges and luxury safaris that produce consistent high-quality content. It was important for us to show brand differentiation and why Royal Zambezi Lodge is so special. The way in which we showcased this was through also holding the standard of luxury and high-quality content, but also showing the personality of the lodge and including the people that make the stay the experience that it is. This is through reels of the team, personal stories from the guides on wildlife sightings and introducing the people behind the scenes to the audience.

User Engagement

A priority was to increase user engagement, often on social media, it can be easy to scroll and not interact with anything, but we wanted to change this for Royal Zambezi Lodge. The main solution for this is getting our followers involved with what we are doing, one of the ways we did this was through posting a monthly competition for the photographs that the safari guides have taken, and asking the users to vote for their favourite ones.

Tracking & Measuring Impact

Tracking was not set up correctly, meaning we couldn’t attribute site visits or conversions to specific channels. We couldn’t measure the impact that the organic social was having on user behaviour on the site, or its role in the funnel. We set this tracking up and can now measure the effect that this channel has.

Our Approach

July 2024 marked the beginning of Talking Stick Digital’s organic social media strategy for Royal Zambezi Lodge.

Our first priority was visibility. We implemented GA4 tracking to better understand how users were interacting with Royal Zambezi Lodge’s website after coming from the organic social content. This allowed us to measure website activity and conversion behaviour with clarity.

With tracking in place, we developed a structured content strategy designed to reflect both the seasonality of the destination and the unique experience offered by the lodge. Content planning considered Zambia’s climate, wildlife activity and travel intent, ensuring posts were timely, relevant and aligned with audience expectations.

We focused heavily on authentic storytelling, using high-quality visuals and real moments from the lodge to involve users in the RZL experience. Rather than leading with sales-driven messaging, content was created with the intention to inspire, educate and engage, building trust and emotional connection with the brand.

Success 1: Nurtured Users Towards Conversion

By focusing on consistent, value-driven content, we were able to nurture users throughout their decision-making journey. Increasing the value of organic social media within RZL’s marketing funnel.

Success 2: Engaging Content Reaching New Audiences

Highly engaging content helped Royal Zambezi Lodge reach new audiences well beyond its existing follower base. See an example of a highly engaging post below, which was posted on Facebook.
